Having a baby can be one of the happiest events of your life. However, it can also be a difficult adjustment for many new moms both physically and emotionally. In the first six weeks up to one year after giving birth, your body may experience various symptoms ranging from backaches to bleeding to soreness. Fatigue, mood swings, anxiety and depression are common for mothers with new babies. Many new moms can even feel ashamed or uncomfortable about feeling any sort of emotional distress postpartum.
New moms are often still afraid to talk about any difficulties they may be going through. They may inwardly feel like they are failing at some task or role as a mother, but never share that with anyone. At Husami Integrative Acupuncture, our goal is not only to provide the best care, but to be a true advocate for the new mom.
Many post-partum symptoms might not show up for six months or more after a baby is born, so it’s important for any new mom to have regular medical check-ins with her provider or acupuncturist during this time of change. Although it’s important to take care of your new baby, it is just as important to take care of yourself. Postpartum self-care is essential for a comfortable and healthy recovery.
